Richard, now Lord Inglewood, and his brother Christopher (born in 1953) were the first children to be born in the house for more than 100 years. Both were educated at Eton and at Trinity College, Cambridge. Lord Inglewood who is a barrister, chartered surveyor and fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, served as a member of the European Parliament from 1989-1994, and 1999-2004, and was also a junior minister in the Department of National Heritage (1995-1997). He is an elected hereditary peer in the House of Lords, and is currently chairman of the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art as well as chairing two companies in the North of England. He married Cressida Pemberton-Pigott in 1986, and they have three children.
